Ahead of the sitcom’s new series in 2027 the full TV cast reunite for a masterclass in comfort comedy, adding musical interludes to the familiar suburban bedlam
It may have started as a one-off special in 2013, but seven series and five Christmas specials in, Two Doors Down has become a Scottish institution of sorts. Created and written by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp, the BBC Scotland sitcom set in a Glasgow suburb is comfort comedy at its very best, with endlessly quotable quips and characters that are masterfully crafted – simultaneously far-fetched and remarkably familiar.
The premise of every episode is essentially the same: longsuffering couple Beth and Eric Baird (played by Arabella Weir and Alex Norton) spend their days being hassled by their eccentric neighbours, who continuously abuse their hospitality and turn trivial moments into drama-fuelled bedlam. While the story follows the same structure in this stage adaptation, we soon learn that big changes are afoot, which threaten to upturn the entire ecosystem of Latimer Crescent as we know it.
